Any suggestions or tips for someone who wants to get into museum curating but has a degree that isn't exactly relevant?

I think the first thing to know about museums is that there are hundreds of jobs within them. You can be a scientist, a lawyer, a social media manager, a conservator, etc. So, I don’t think there’s a wrong academic path. That said, if you’re specifically interested in curating, I think it’s important to decipher which discipline, time period, or set of artists that you’re most interested in. Once you know you that, you’d better get to researching and writing. Internships are the easiest way to get into museums, but as your searching for the right opportunity I think that writing about art is a good activity.

My friend Jared has a great tumblr art journal called @critical-objectshttp://critical-objects.tumblr.com/about

Thank you for your question! xx, krd
